Photoshop Freebie - Instagram Photo Booth Prop (Must Have Photoshop)

PLEASE READ FIRST - This answers many frequently asked questions about this template

• Can I download this file to my Smartphone or Tablet?  ANS.  This download is meant to be used on a desktop or laptop.  If you download to your tablet or smartphone you will need a fully functioning copy of Photoshop as this is a .PSD file - used in Photoshop.
• I LIKED your Facebook page, now how do I find the download? ANS.  After LIKING my Facebook page you scroll to the section that says "Apps" and find the tab for FREEBIES. Click on FREEBIES.  That will take you to a Dropbox page to download the file.
• What size is the file?  The file is quite large, it is almost 20 MB.  That is due to the many layers.  
• What are the dimensions of the final image? It starts out as a 4x5" image.  That makes it possible for you to resize it on your laptop to 20x30 inches which is the size of a poster (in the U.S.).  Costco, for instance, has a nice poster that you can print on a heavy card stock or foam core board.  Talk to your local Costco to find out how to order.
• Can I change the Instagram profile name, text and cut out?  Yes - you just have to know how to use Photoshop.  You can erase the text I have there now (or hide that layer) and create your own text.
• What fonts do you use?  The fonts used are: Instagram = Billabong; Profile Name = Arial Rounded.  The other comments are embedded in the file and are not fonts.  You can click the appropriate layer to turn them off or you can take the dropper tool to get the color and paint over the text with a paintbrush.  
• Where can I learn more about Photoshop?   http://www.thecoffeeshopblog.com/   I am not a photoshop teacher, but check out The Coffee Shop Blog to learn about how to use clipping masks and more.  I love her blog.
• Can I just get the JPEG of this file?  I am now providing just the JPEG, but you must resize it for 20x30 inches to print at Costco.

This is sized for a 20x30 inch poster that you can have printed at your local Costco.  If you select the posterboard option at Costco then you just have to get an exacto knife to cut out the frame.  You may also want to adhere it to a second foam board for extra support.  Have fun with this at your next photo booth!

Friday Freebie: 'Hip to be Square' Free Photoshop Template

With Instagram it became 'Hip to be Square.' The 4:6 ratio took a back seat to the 20 billion photos that have been uploaded by the 200 million active Instagram users.  It changed the way we framed the images in our daily lives.

I thought I would create a template that highlights a SQUARE photo in the center, but still highlights a few rectangle size photos too.

The images I am using are from a recent nature walk I took at Shoreline Park in Mt. View, California.

You will need to have working knowledge of Photoshop to use this template and clipping masks.  I always refer people to the wonderful blog The Coffee Shop Blog by Rita.  So frame away!

Friday Freebie: Facebook Timeline Cover "Tiny Bubbles"

I love to design and create all sorts of templates. Once I learned how to do it from others who were so generous with tutorials like The Coffee Shop Blog and Paint The Moon it's been fun to try on my own.

Today's freebie is a template I call Tiny Bubbles. I created it for a friend who is from the islands of Guam and Hawai'i.  So I thought this was appropriate given the famous "Tiny Bubbles" song by Don Ho.  Okay, maybe it's a little cheesy, but I still love the idea of these bubbles of photos with the background of one of my favorite tropical flowers, the plumeria.




All of these photos were taken on our last vacation to Hawai'i.  We went to the islands of Oahu and Maui.  I'm ready to return!  I did replace these images with photos from a family session for my friend.

Friday Freebie: Family Circle Storyboard Photoshop

My goal is to post a Friday Freebie around once a month.  Last month I shared a densely packed, 49-spread square template for Instagram or any of your other favorite photos.  That storyboard is perfect for an engagement session where you could split the top half and bottom half with photos of the two people and meet in the center with one large image.  

For this Friday Freebie I have what I call my Family Circle Storyboard. My inspiration was this wonderful Radial Family Tree over at Cactus and Olive.  

I created this entirely in Photoshop.  Once I figured a way to create arcs I was able to piece something similar.  This is perfect for capturing a family tree or a family vacation.  My example shows off some photos from our Australia vacation.  NOTE: Once you download the blank template you will find I numbered the clipping masks according to the numerals on a clock.  Also notice that the background is transparent - so if you save your final work as a PNG file, you won't have a white background.

The text is something you will have to play with to shape it in that arc using the Warped Text Tool. You can see my text and font example and use that as a guideline.  In Cactus's and Olive's example she uses the family name which is a wonderful idea.

I also provide the additional clipping masks in case you would rather fill in the space with photos instead of text.  Play around with it, it's your choice!

You will need to be versed in using clipping masks in Photoshop.   I highly recommend that you visit Rita's The Coffee Shop Blog to learn how to use Clipping Masks which is essential for this storyboard.  Plus, if you're game, here's another wonderful Photoshop Action that Rita has provided which speeds up the insertion of your images. It's called Group-It. AMAZING Free Instagram Storyboard for 49 images

They say that necessity is the mother of invention.  Well I reckon that is how this storyboard came to be.  I was asked to create something for two people getting engaged with a way to show their lives intersecting.  This is a perfect storyboard to frame for a wedding or engagement celebration.  OR for someone's 49th or 50th birthday!  While it does only have 49 spots for photos, you can take the birthday celebrant's 50th year photo at their party to frame later and start a new storyboard for their next 49 years, right?  Or how about using this for a bunch of your favorite Instagram photos?

This storyboard has 49 places for square cropped photos with the center one being the main attraction. For this example I filled it with images from my husband's and my childhood all the way through to our center as a couple.   Lots of between-years were skipped but you get the idea.  By the way my friend Tracy, a wonderful photographer herself, snapped this photo for us while we were in Maui - that's not a fake backdrop!

There are 48 small squares, which when used for an engaged couple provide 24 per person.  The larger center spot is to be used with an image of the couple.  But your creativity is the limit with this storyboard.  Perhaps it's a composition of your favorite Instagram images?  Or a collage based on colors?

NOTE:  I produced this as a 40x40 inch print. Because of the size of the file I reduced the download to an 8x8 inch file.  To resize in Photoshop simple go to "Image - Image size" to whatever size square you need before proceeding.  You may also want to change the DPI from 75 to 240 or 300 depending on your preference.

We love a great Friday Freebie here at Moms Who Click - and we have found a number of amazing sites that have wonderful templates, storyboards, textures or tips to share freely.  Our latest find is a wonderful site called BirDesign Shop.

A new photography friend told me about this site after I saw a wonderful coupon she published on her page.  I loved hers so much I created my own, but I love that you can grab one of the "fresh-out-of-the-box" ones at BirDesignShop - they are super easy to use and help make marketing a lot easier for your studio.

Check out the freebie for September, a terrific card to advertise your holiday mini sessions.  Of course you can customize the text for just about any holiday you choose.  The bright colors stand out and scream "check me out!"

For those of you who know just enough Photoshop to cause havoc, here's a free link to the one I created using BirDesign's for inspiration.  I customized this using my logo colors and a holiday inspired background.  To customize yours just use the dropper tool to select the color you want from your own logo, then use the paintbrush to change it up.

This week I stumbled upon an article from SheKnows  on the Best Photo Inspiration by and for Moms.  If you have not seen this article, you should definitely go check it out.  I am already a huge fan of Shutter Sisters &  Clickin Moms but the blog,  Project Alicia was one that I was not familiar with.   Anyway, I went and visited her site and have to say, I am now a new fan!

Her blog is beautifully designed and is full of inspiration and ideas for photographers and scrapbookers.  She provides tutorials, challenges, link-ups and freebies.   So much great stuff!

Speaking of freebies, I found this terrific photo layout on her site and there are many others.....just click here to see all of Alicia's wonderful layouts.

When I saw this layout below from her December collection,  I knew it would be perfect for my recent photo walk (minus the original title).

I was inspired to go out on a neighborhood photowalk after reading my friend Lissa from Laf Custom Designs blog.  The idea is to go and explore your neighborhood with your camera and share a little piece of where you live and the beauty it offers.

With this in mind, I headed out with my local friend who recently purchased a new SLR camera.  She is learning the features of her new baby and wanted a few "in the field" tips.  Since I love talking about anything that has to do with photos, I was happy go on a walk with her near the rail road tracks and talk ISO, Aperture and Shutter Speed.

I love this little area of our neighborhood because it combines the ruggedness of the metal and rocks along the tracks with the beauty of flowers and greenery including palm trees and pine trees (yep, we live in California).

My daughter turned 13 last week and to celebrate we had a pool and manicure party.  I thought it would be fun to put together a little collage from the day and wanted to share the template with you.

Vertical Storyboard Freebie

I love finding free storyboards online.  There are so many generous photographers/artists out there that share these little gifts.  I have a Pinterest board with a bunch of sites listed that you should check out.  You'll find all kinds of great storyboards to help you display your photos.

Free Instagram Template for your Favorite Shots

Happy Chinese New Year! With this being the Year of the Dragon we have a free Photoshop template for our readers!

I've been on a bit of an Instgram kick ever since my hubby bought these -> new lenses from Photojojo. Since every photo you post on Instagram is square, just like Polaroid snapshots, I thought I would make a new template to share with all you Instafans out there.

You can replace the text in the upper middle square, or even replace it with another image.  I am planning on making a series of these using a theme with similar colors, shapes and face shots.

BEHIND THE LENS: A PEEK AT OUR RECENT PHOTO SHOOTS

This week, we thought we would put a twist on our Behind the Lens series.  Typically we feature photographers from all over the world, but because I was a bit behind in getting my two latest interviews ready (Halloween, birthdays, philanthropy fairs, etc. got in the way), I instead thought I'd show you a few photo collages from some recent shoots that we've worked on.

Anyway, as you may know, my blogging partner and I are both photographers.  And like many of you, we have been busy over the past few weeks doing various holiday photo shoots.  Below are some photo collages of the wonderful families we had the privilege to photograph......

How cute is this family?  The kids each brought their favorite toy to be included in their photos.  

So sweet!

Here is another lovely family.  We actually shot both families at the same local park.  It is such a great place to get a variety of photos.

And here are some of my favorite sisters.  How cute are these girls?  We shot these photos at a friend's house during that wonderful golden hour.  

And in case you are interested, here are the "technical" details regarding these shoots:

Equipment Used:   Canon 7D and the 24-70mm lens (love that lens--it is a regular workhorse!). 

ISO:   Between 300-400 due to the shade.

f/stop:  5.6 for the family shots,  4.0 when I had two subjects and 2.8 when it was just one subject.  

Extra tidbits:  I did use a Canon Speedlite 580 EXII flash for some of the family photos to fill in the light.  For the families, I was shooting between 4-5:30 pm. and it was pretty shady.

Antique Duo Template: Free

I recently wrote a book club post on our sister blog, Parent Grapevine.  I'm a member of an online book club called From Left to Write and our book this month was  Mr. Rosenblum Dreams in English.  For the book club we write a post inspired by the book rather than a review (which is good for me since I would not be able to write a decent review).  The book is about immigrants to a new country.  I wanted to show a few photos of my grandfather (who immigrated from China), so I created this template.  Somehow I think of these oval frames when creating antique photos:

FREE STORY BOARDS: PHOTOSHOP

Recently we had to make a few flyers that were printed on A-size (8.5x11 inch) and 8x10 inch paper.  Click here for these free storyboard templates.  They will come in very handy when you need a quick flyer that shows your contact information on the bottom and your logo on top.

Because they are sized for 8.5x11 (for the one above) or 8x10 (for the one below), it is super easy to print to your home printer or send to your local lab in a common size.  Remove the text and logo if you just want to use the frames.

I should call the one above "Trifecta" because we have these wonderful shots of a client that show off her beloved horse.  But I already used that name for another storyboard that you can link to here.

NOTE: This zip file is housed on Mediafire, whose site is rated high in terms of security.  But be sure to have some sort of virus scan protection on your computer to be sure it is virus free.  I have Comcast for my high speed internet connection - did you know you can get Norton Security for FREE?
