What to Wear for Photo Shoot--Clothing Ideas for Boys

Last week, I posted a few color palettes to help inspire wardrobe choices for photo shoots.  I had so much fun creating them.  I found the template for making these boards at The CoffeeShop Blog.  You should definitely give them a try.  I'm sure you'll be hooked into making tons of these!

Anyway, I then had a client ask me for ideas on what to dress her boys in for her upcoming photo shoot.   Using my color palettes I put together the wardrobe board below and she loved it.   She said she never thought of using plaids before and loved the idea.  She ended up dressing her boys in a blue plaid color scheme and the photos turned out great.

Color Palettes for Wardrobe Inspiration

I love Pinterest and lately what I find myself pinning are color inspiration boards by various color palette websites like Design Seeds, Photo Card Boutique and The Perfect Palette.

After perusing many of these sites, I was inspired to create my own boards.  I remembered that Rita from The Coffeeshop Blog had a great template on her site, so I decided to give it a try.  Needless to say, I was hooked.  I found myself looking through my collection of photos and spending hours designing a variety of color palette boards.

Below are a few examples of what I created.....

I love the soft colors from this tulip photo.  

The potted plant outside my door inspired me to create this board.

A trip Spain and this photo from Guell Park in Barcelona inspired this bright combination of colors.

I was thinking that these boards might come in handy when clients ask for suggestions on what colors to wear for their photo shoots.   I'm a big fan of mixing colors and not having everyone matching or wearing just white or black.   I'm hoping that these palettes will provide a little wardrobe inspiration for my clients   In any case, they were fun to create!

What to Wear-Freebie

We've noticed that many photographers are putting together Wardrobe Inspiration boards.  We thought this was a great idea and a terrific service to provide to clients who often ask "What should we wear?"

We put together our What to Wear guide using screen shots from Old Navy and Power Point (we saved it as a jpeg).  You can also use Photoshop to create your collage.  If you want your clothes to look more layered, utilize the magic wand tool to cut around the items.  We also noticed that some photographers add the price points and links for each piece featured on their boards.  

We liked using Old Navy's website to pull clothing items from because it is a store that is affordable and their website shows the clothing items as individual pieces (not on models).

In the end, it really isn't about the store but to  inspire color choices and styles and provide a starting point to help your clients pull together a great looking wardrobe their photo session.  If you want to find other great wardrobe ideas, you should check out Pinterest.  Search for "what to wear" or "wardrobe inspiration" and you'll find enough ideas to fill your closet. :)
