One Little Word Project

by Kristina

This year I'm participating in Ali Edward's One Little Word Project.   I heard about this project through my blogging/photography communities and decided that this would be a great project to be a part of.

The idea is to pick a word for the year that will be your driving force.....your mantra.. a word that you can reflect upon as you go about your daily life.   The word can be a thought, feeling, verb, or noun.  It doesn't really matter.  The important part is finding a word that resonates with you.

After contemplating words like SIMPLIFY, BE, EXPLORE, CREATE,  DREAM,  EXPAND...... I decided on the word FOCUS.    I think it stood out because I realized that the word list I was creating was all over the map and as much as I wanted to explore new ideas, I also wanted to simplify my life.    So for me, FOCUS seemed to be the shoe that fit.  It is a word that I can apply to my life in so many ways........

  • Focus on my photography business and the types of work I enjoy doing most (family and children's lifestyle photography).
  • Focus on the projects at hand before adding more to my plate--I think this is why I sometimes feel so scattered.
  • Focus on my family--creating quality time without distractions.
  • Focus on my friendships--new/old, in real life and online.
  • Focus on what I'm doing right now...in this moment.
I'm looking forward to 2012......a year where I will have a little more focus.  What is your word? Please share in the comments below.

  1. I've been doing this for a few years and it works great! I can't decide on my focus this year though. Last year was "Giving Back" but nothing seems to strike a chord yet for this year. Best of luck and thanks for your work on this blog... :)

  3. This is a wonderful idea. And without even realizing it I already have my word for the year. 'Inspire' I'll have to look further into this project to see what it's all about. I'm sure it will 'inspire' me. :)

  4. Debbie...I love that word. Isn't it funny how a word is actually a part of you and you sometimes don't even realize it? Thanks for sharing. :)

  5. I found Ali's site around this time last year and love this concept! Last year my word was light. For my business I wanted to focus on "finding the light". Photography is all about light! This year, it was pretty easy to come up with my word...perspective. I've come to realize that the photographers whose work I admire most have an amazing perspective on things. I need to see things from different perspectives, both in my business and personal life.

Focus is great - there are plenty of times when I need some focus!

Best wishes for a fantastic 2012!
